Hydrogen is the cleanest vehicle fuel possible, with water as the only emission. Generating Hydrogen however requires a lot of electricity. Historically using fossil fuels to generate Hydrogen to use as fuel hasn’t been viable, however using renewables is a great alternative.
Chelveston Renewable Energy Park is currently installing a 100% renewable Hydrogen generation plant. This plant will fuel a fleet of state-of-the-art Hydrogen-Hybrid HGV’s. The conversion of the first HGV has been completed and testing is currently underway.
To facilitate this testing, a smaller Hydrogen Generation Test Plant is under construction. This will be operational alongside CREP’s newest solar array in 2020. The full scale plant is intended to have a 10MW production capacity.
If the technology proves successful there are options for further developments in the hydrogen sector, such as injecting Hydrogen directly into the National Gas Grid, or improving the efficiency of Gas Fired Plants.
